No queremos ver videos horribles.

This is not how you do it. You don’t go to people’s front doors with AK-47s; you go with subpoenas. You send in the feds, put it on the news, freeze the bank accounts so they can’t buy groceries, discredit them, stigmatize them, ruin their careers, put them under so much stress that they do the job for you. Kidnapping and killing people for telling the truth is so 20th century. You are creating heroes when you could be creating homeless. You are forcing some meaningless literary magazine to say their names when all we want to do is use your delivery services and party all night. We are some of your best customers, and you are making us question our own consumption, which is antithetical to an effective corporate marketing strategy.
You don’t drag people out of their homes; you hire lawyers to set up a shell company and take their homes. Integrate it with your tax-avoidance strategy. Perfect a Series LLC that does the litigation for you. Nevada is great, Delaware is the old standby, and they’re saying that Wyoming is the new Switzerland. But torturing people, it’s almost like you’re trying to get listed on OFAC. You’re making enemies of the same systems that are on your side. You have the resources to weaponize the legal system, control media narratives, engineer government policy. You don’t kill people for telling the truth, you kill truth itself. You don’t pay starving thugs, you pay publicists, lawyers, universities, and venues to de-platform. You fund institutions that lift the comfortable up, drive the unreasonable down, fund art that’s about nothing, gut independent viewpoints, spin so many different realities that people don’t even know what’s fact anymore. And on the off-chance miracle that something penetrates, you divert, distract, pay some buchona to take her top off at the beach, start a war with Iran.
We want to live in comfortable bohemian hypocrisy. We don’t want to be serious, we want to pretend to be serious. We want to publish edgy fiction, go to the bar later, have a couple of mezcals, and utilize your services. But you are making it so that every package delivery is covered in blood. And not just any blood, but the blood of our people. Or at least the people we think we’d like to be. The brave, the seekers, the ones still willing to sacrifice for truth. We don’t want to watch horrific videos. We don’t want to be reminded that July 31st is the 11th anniversary of the Narvarte Case, and the horrifying shit that took place there happened to people that we probably would have been friends with. We want to write about the violence of not getting published or not getting your film made, not actual fucking nauseating violence. You’re making it so that we have to remember them. You’re making us pretend to be moral when all we really want to do is get numb.
